SMART is an acronym for:

Say you have two employees who have similar responsibilities. You wouldn’t want to have one employee set lofty goals with massive expectations and the other set minimal goals with little expectations. It’s important to be consistent in a situation like this because it avoids tension among employees and resentment toward management.
