An article on Business Insider references a study where eye-tracking technology was used to determine which sections of a resume recruiters looked at most frequently. According to them, “The study showed recruiters will look at your name, current title and company, current position start and end dates, previous title and company, previous position start and end dates and education.”
For this reason, it’s important for your resume to have a visual hierarchy so recruiters can easily scan and find the information they’re looking for. This leads us to our next point.
Place Relevant Experience Toward the Top
Basing your resume writing off of the advice from Business Insider, it’s clear you’ll want to place relevant experience as close to the top as possible. Just think about what the recruiter will be looking for in relation to the job you’re applying for and what would be most appealing to them.
For example, if your current or previous position is similar to the job you’re applying for, you want it to be featured front and center. Or if you’ve got a particular set of skills that fit in with the position, mention them early on. This increases the chances of a recruiter finding critical information right away as they explore your resume. You can make this easier for them by using header tags or bolding and/or underlining the key details on your resume. It’s also smart to use bullet points when creating longer lists because it tends to read more fluidly. The easier it is for a recruiter to digest the information, the more likely it is to get noticed.

By presenting information in a logical, easy-to-follow way and placing the most relevant information at the top, you should be able to get your resume noticed quickly.
